Each one of the sharks you see featured has been catalogued in the database of the Marine Park since the time of their official naming.  How do we name the sharks? We name sharks on the basis of their distinctive permanent features such as scars, deformities, missing or damaged fins, genetic markings and unique coloration.

The first individuals were named back in 2003, so some of the sharks have been visiting for over 20 years already!  Their life histories and personalities have been documented by the scientists who dive with them daily, and many of them have been subjects of scientific publications.
